Press Release Summary = U.S. Department of Energy Lab, Argonne, selects eCustoms to strengthen Export Compliance process
Press Release Body = Buffalo, N.Y. February 8, 2006 The U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory has selected eCustoms' export compliance solution to strengthen its Restricted Party Screening process.
One of the world's leading research facilities, Argonne supports more than 200 projects, from studies of the atomic nucleus to tracking global climate change.
Because the lab receives thousands of foreign visitors annually, one of its main priorities is to adequately meet regulations covering the transfer of export-controlled technology and knowledge to foreign nationals.
Argonne previously screened names manually against Restricted Party lists available on several different websites. In choosing eCustoms export compliance solution, screening against all relevant lists can be undertaken from a centralized point, significantly decreasing the processing time.
"What used to take about half-an-hour per request now takes just minutes," said Elliot Kolsto, Argonne's Senior Program Coordinator/Adviser (Export Control, Foreign Visits and Assignments, and Foreign Travel). "Having a resource that saves so much time is important when you have limited resources and tight deadlines."
Argonne also utilizes the eCustoms solution to help ensure that its employees do not breach transfer-of-technology laws during trips outside the U.S., as well as for export license determination covering shipments to destinations overseas.
"eCustoms counts many research labs like Argonne among our clients, and we understand the specific challenges they are facing," said Jackson Wood, eCustoms Corporate Business Manager. "These challenges include meeting disparate global compliance regulations that strictly control how sensitive information and materials must be managed."
eCustoms provides automated solutions that help companies involved in global trade achieve compliance rapidly in the short term and continuously over the long term. These solutions include export and import documentation, electronic submissions to Customs, NAFTA management, tariff classification, Restricted Party screening, ECCN analysis, export license determination, usage audit reporting, and export license application, submission and post approval management.
